Neolithic potteries were reported for the first time at some locaiities in Amsadong collapsed by big flood in 1925. However, it was in 1960s the first archaeological survey was made by the Korea University museum. Neolithic pit-houses were exposed during the construction of baseball field for Jangchung Highschool in 1968. Construction was stopped and archaeological excavations were carried out by university museums. National Museumcarried out a series of campaigns from 1971 to 1975 and found many pit-dwellings with numerous potteries and stone artefacts.

In 1983 and 1984, the pit-dwellings excavated by the National Museum in early 1970s, were exposed for conservation works for exhibition in the hall which is currently used as site museum.
Two salvage archaeological researches were carried out for improve facilities for public use in the territory of National Historical Monument Park in 2004/5 and 2014/5. Pit-dwellings of Neolithic and Three Kingdoms Period were found during the campaign of excavation at the southern part of the park in 2016. In this campaign, a jade pendant was found for the first time at the site from a pit-dwelling dated 4,000 BC. Upto present, numerous pottery sherd and gound stone tools including fishing net weights and saddle querns were retrieved from series of excavations. Charred acorns indicate potential use as a major source of food because they are very common in this area.
